Week Three

We were fortunate to have the assistance of young Mike Dunn and the Chang family who glued down most of the pieces for the FIRE panel. Katie kept a watchful eye over the Sand Panel. Angela lived up to her name and visited us often. The third Thursday evening of July brought us a great many local visitors who helped us to install the Border pieces…all told about sixty (60) 6” pieces put down in 3 hours!

Criss cross pattern of dome drawing

Goblet with Straw!
The Goblet panel was brought further to life by incorporating details from children's drawings. The 'straw' (my personal favorite) was added to one Goblet. We also added the Museum Dome's criss-cross pattern per one one young boy's observant drawing. I'm continually inspired by what others see.

Many made mosaics with beans and took them home.

Week Four

We spent our last days polishing, planning for installation, and grouting (one panel per day; 4 days in a row). Kudos to the brave folks that donned gloves, masks, smocks and dove right in with us. Further gratitude goes out to the many scrubbing fingers that helped us clean and polish the glass to bring the designs to life.

We solicited suggestions for our mural's title and voted for our favorites. I admit to lobbying hard for the one offered by a young girl. She had a look around the museum, at each and every panel and noticed that the museum itself is located on Dock Street in the midst of a marina facing the boats. 'AHOY! BLOW THE GLASS' it is.

Further thanks to those Hansen Brothers - Oscar and Eli - along with Mick's design input for taking great care to install the Mural as I finished sealing it on the last day of my residency. Truly a collaborative project, this could not have been done without all the enthusiastic participation from the Museum Staff and it's visitors.
